Where Did “Man v. Food” Host Adam Richman Go?

Originally an actor, Adam Richman found fame as the host of Man v. Food. In 2012, Richman bid farewell to the show, which was a shock to longtime fans. Since leaving the show, Richman still leads a fascinating life based on food.

Time To Shed The Pounds

Richman’s decision to leave the popular Travel Channel show was based on his physical appearance. Throughout the series, the Brooklyn native found himself gaining more weight. “My job was predicated on eating indulgent food. That alone put me behind the eight ball,” Richman told People. After the final episode aired, Richman hit the gym aggressively while cutting down on dairy products. As expected, he was tempted into going back into his old ways. “The crew got a bunch of pizzas, and it was all I could smell. It sucked. But I had a Greek yogurt with raw almonds, water, and an iced coffee, and I was satisfied,” Richman also told People.

With old episodes of Man v Food still airing, Richman sees a different person on the screen. “When I watch old episodes, I see my doughy face. But I’m not filled with regret, because I made the adjustments,” he also told People.

Hitting The Soccer Field

In 2014, Richman played in Soccer Aid, which is a charity football game in England. The game unites celebrities and professional soccer players in a friendly match. “Taking part in Soccer Aid was a big motivation to stay fit. I actually cried when I was asked to take part. If I was still 200lb-(14 stone) plus, people would have said, ‘Maybe you can be a mascot, but I don’t think you can play,'” he told Cosmopolitan. “Now, I do intense workouts involving plyometrics, intense running, ball skills drills – I barely have enough energy to get into the shower at the end of the day!”

The game found Richman teaming with celebrities such as Gordon Ramsay and James McAvoy. With 65,574 people in attendance, Richman’s team took down the England squad with a 4-2 win. The real winners were UNICEF, who gained $5.5 million from ticket sales and donations. As a Tottenham Hotspur fan, Richman got the chance to see their stadium in person. “It’s stupid, I just never thought I’d see it,” he said while holding back tears. “Just in a million years … I never thought I’d actually see it. It’s unreal,” he said in a Tottenham Hotspur video.

Still Talking About Food

When he’s not working out or playing soccer, Richman is still a sought after food host. In 2013, he hosted Adam Richman’s Fandemonium, which deals with popular fandoms around the world. The following year, Richman jumped to NBC to host their reality show competition Food Fighters. In 2014, he also began hosting Man Finds Food, which was later renamed Secret Eats with Adam Richman. Unlike Man v. Food, this show has Richman discovering lesser-known foods.

In 2015, Richman returned to writing with Straight Up Tasty: Meals, Memories, and Mouthfuls from My Travels: A Cookbook. The book showcases 100 recipes with some of Richman’s trademark humor. As a television personality, Richman wanted to offer a different take on a cookbook. “I wanted to make a ‘non-cookbook cookbook.’ I wanted to put a lot of irreverent but fun stuff in it. I mean, how many opportunities are there for a non-chef to write a cookbook?” he told LoveFood. This is the follow up to his 2010 book America the Edible: A Hungry History, from Sea to Dining Sea.

Over a decade since starting Man v Food, Richman is still passionate about sharing his food journey with everyone.
