Stephen King’s The Dark Tower is set for a TV adaptation thanks to Amazon. Over a year since its reveal, fans have been wondering if it’ll ever be released. Luckily, it’s quickly moving forward, and they managed to find their lead actor.

Time To Strike

Sam Strike has been cast as the lead role of Roland Deschain. That role was originally played by Idris Elba in the 2017 film adaptation of The Dark Tower. The English actor is best known for his work on the long-running BBC soap opera EastEnders. During the show, he portrayed law student Johnny Carter.

Following 122 episodes, Strike decided it was time to exit the show. “Thanks for all the love this year guys. Means the world. Decided to bow out. couldn’t have done it without you all,” he tweeted in 2014.

Get The Chainsaw Ready

Strike’s most noticeable role post-EastEnders was playing the title character of 2017’s Leatherface. The movie serves as a prequel to the beloved horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Strike finds himself playing the teenage version of the franchise’s antagonist. As a kid, the actor found his own way to watch the classic against his parent’s wishes.

“I actually saw the original when I was very young, much to my parents’ dismay. They were watching it and I was hiding behind the sofa watching it too. The image of Gunnar Hansen swinging the chainsaw around at the end of the original has always stuck with me,” he told Cryptic Rock. He recently starred in Nightflyers, which is based on George R. R. Martin’s novella of the same name.

Flagg On The Field

Strike isn’t the only person on board for the upcoming Dark Tower series.

Jasper Pääkkönen will co-star as Randall Flagg, who wants to stop Roland’s journey. Pääkkönen is best known for his work in Vikings and BlacKkKlansmanFilming for The Darktower will start sometime later this year.
