With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, fans will see the end of the Skywalker Saga. With the end of a nine-film saga, many are wondering about the future of Star Wars movies. Fortunately, Rian Johnson, David Benioff, and D.B. Weiss will handle things for the next decade.

Taking Over The Reins

Recently, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the franchise’s upcoming plans. While there won’t be another film for a few years, a shift in storylines will take place. “We’re not just looking at what the next three movies might be, or talking about this in terms of a trilogy. We’re looking at: What is the next decade of storytelling?” she told the publication. In late 2017, Johnson revealed plans to direct a new trilogy of films. Benioff and Weiss, who co-created Game of Thrones, will have their own Star Wars films, too. While Johnson’s movies were rumored to be separate from Benioff and Weiss, there will be common ground. “As they finish Game of Thrones, they’re going to segue into Star Wars. They’re working very closely with Rian,” Kennedy told Entertainment Weekly.

Here To Stay

Johnson directed Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which earned over 1.3 billion at the box office. His work earned him a Best Director win at the 2018 Empire Awards. The film did receive its fair share of negative reactions from longtime Star Wars fans. “Every fan has a list of stuff they want a Star Wars movie to be and they don’t want a Star Wars movie to be. You’re going to find very few fans out there whose lists line up,” Johnson told Business Insider.

Game Of Skywalker

Before Game of Thrones, Benioff took on major film projects with Troy and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Alongside Weiss, he’s earned numerous Emmy Awards for the show. More awards will certainly be coming following Game of Thrones‘ final season.

With the trio of Johnson, Benioff, and Weiss, the future of Star Wars looks brighter than ever.
