Obi-Wan’s Series Is Set 8 Years After ‘Revenge Of The Sith’ And Creates A World Of Possibilities

Published on September 10, 2019

Obi-Wan Kenobi played major roles in both the prequel and original trilogies of the Star Wars franchise. Unfortunately, for fans of the character, he has been missing from the most recent Star Wars films. But it appears the wait for Kenobi’s return is over. At the most recent D23 conference, an Obi-Wan Kenobi series was confirmed to release on the upcoming Disney Plus streaming platform. A program on the official Star Wars website, The Star Wars Show, revealed that the series will take place 8 years after Revenge of the Sith.

The Star Wars series has a plethora of characters that fans could see in the upcoming show. We look at the galaxy far-far away and find plenty of theories to form regarding potential character appearances.

Beloved Star Wars Characters Have A Chance To Make An Appearance

The most recent film in the Star Wars franchise, Solo: A Star-Wars Story, takes place around the same time as the Obi-Wan series. A run-in with the iconic Han Solo character isn’t likely, with Han working for the Empire during this time, but some of the other supporting characters could show up. One of those characters is Qi’Ra played by Emilia Clarke of Game of Thrones Fame. Her specific whereabouts on the timeline are unknown making a potential cameo possible. The villain of Solo, Dryden Vos played by Paul Bettany is another character that could show up. Dryden Vos is the leader of the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate, which could provide a foe for the upcoming series. Another adversary that could make his way to the screen is the legendary sith Darth Maul. Although Maul was chopped in half by Kenobi himself in Star-Wars: The Phantom Menace, the sith made a quick appearance in Solo with a shiny set of robot legs.

Another character in Luke Skywalker could also appear alongside Obi-Wan. In the timeline, Skywalker would be around 8 years old and Obi-Wan would most likely be on the same planet of the young Jedi master. Kanobi was last seen in The Revenge of the Sith handing off Skywalker to his caretakers. The plot of the new series could potentially follow Obi-Wan as he watches over Luke from afar.

Kanobi’s relationship with Skywalker could be a viable plot for the new show. But knowing Kenobi’s character and the supporting cast that could surround him, there are plenty of other paths the series could follow.

A Plethora Of Plot Options

One interesting plotline could be a rematch between Kenobi and the aforementioned Darth Maul. If Darth Maul does make a return in the series, one could infer that he’d hold a grudge with Obi-Wan after his near-fatal encounter with his lightsaber. The recent Solo film has already teased that Maul could play a large role in the future Star Wars media. The Star Wars Rebels animated series also featured Maul and Obi-Wan in one of their several story arcs. With Maul making his way into some of the recent Disney Star Wars properties it wouldn’t be surprising if he was the main antagonist in the Obi-Wan T.V. show.

Perhaps a separate story the show could tell is that of an extremely stressed and battered Kenobi. This theory comes from the timeline that has already been laid out. With the series taking place 8 years after Revenge of the Sith that only leaves an 11-year gap between Obi-Wan’s appearance as the aged hermit in Star Wars: A New Hope. Because Ewan Mcgregor is playing a younger version of Obi-Wan, there is going to have to be an event that leads to a massive amount of aging to match the appearance of the character in A New Hope.

There are thousands of theories to be made regarding the upcoming series. With the rich lore that Star-Wars has there is no shortage of directions to take the titular character.

2019 will feature the final film in the new trilogy, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and the Disney Plus series The Mandalorian.  The Obi-Wan series, on the other hand, does not have a specific release date but is speculated for 2021. Between the beloved characters that could appear and the intriguing potential plotlines, there is plenty to be excited about leading up to the 2021 release.
