Major Questions About ‘Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’ That Should Be Solved
Published on May 10, 2019
With The Rise of Skywalker coming soon, Star Wars fans are trying to unearth its secrets. Every time they believe they’re closer to the truth, a new tidbit disrupts everything. We look at several questions surrounding the film that should be answered.
Which Skywalker Are They Talking About?
Star Wars films have always had titles that were crucial to the story. Fans have been writing numerous theories about what The Rise of Skywalker means. “In the flow of titles, this movie had a very weird responsibility. It had to be the end of not just three movies, but nine movies, and the idea of having to incorporate the stories that have come before strangely is the story of the movie,” director J.J. Abrams told Entertainment Tonight. While not much is known about Rey’s parents, they could secretly be part of the Skywalker lineage. This could easily be about Kylo Ren, who is Luke Skywalker’s nephew. There’s a great chance that both Rey and Kylo could step up to continue the Skywalker legacy.
What About That Death Star?
In the Rise of Skywalker trailer, a shot of a destroyed Death Star can be seen. There have only been two Death Stars in the nine movie saga. The first one was obliterated in the climax of A New Hope. The second one was under construction during Return of the Jedi. Much like the original, this Death Star also got destroyed. The second one, however, was inhabited by Palpatine when it was crushed. With Palpatine’s sinister chuckle ending the trailer, the second one may be lying in the middle of nowhere.
Luke As A Spirit?
In The Last Jedi, Luke Skywalker trains Rey to become a new Jedi. In the movie, he tried to teach her three important Jedi lessons but stopped at two. After an argument with Rey concerning Kylo, he walked away from the training. At the end of the movie, Luke dies from the high usage of Force projection. The Rise of Skywalker could find Luke teaching Rey the final lesson after all. How he does it, though, remains a mystery. Does he do it through writings or audio recordings? Could he possibly come back as a Force spirit?
Another Droid In Town?
BB-8 will be having some new company in the flick. The trailer for The Rise of Skywalker reveals a brand new droid named D-0. The droid, which looks like a rolling megaphone, won the hearts of fans when it appeared at Star Wars Celebration. Not much is known about D-0, but how it’ll fit into the big picture will be interesting.
Who Exactly Is Jannah?
Another new character for The Rise of Skywalker is Jannah. While she doesn’t appear in the trailer, she was revealed at Star Wars Celebration. She’s being portrayed by newcomer Naomi Ackie, who appeared n the 2016 British film Lady Macbeth. “I felt pretty cool playing Jannah, I’m not going to lie. I’m not a very cool person personally, but she’s really cool. She packs a punch,” Ackie said at Celebration. There are rumors of her possibly being the daughter of Lando Calrissian.
Are They Rey’s Parents?
While most of the cast is out, there are a couple familiar faces without any roles attached. The biggest one is Keri Russell, who earned praise for her work on The Americans. Since being announced for the movie, rumors have been rampant about her playing Rey’s mother. Joining her, in the undisclosed roles category, is Lost star, Dominic Monaghan. Since he’s about the same age as Russell, he could be playing Rey’s father. The story about Rey’s parents has been looming over our heads for the past two films. With this being the final film of a nine-movie saga, there’s no better time to introduce them.
