Lashana Lynch Is 007, Not The New James Bond
Published on August 1, 2019
Bond 25 made headlines when it was announced that Lashana Lynch was taking over the iconic role of “007”. The internet exploded. There had already been speculation about who should replace Daniel Craig as the actor was not slated to reprise the role of James Bond. The idea of a woman assuming the 007 mantle was, unfortunately, cause for much upset.
However, fans of the franchise can relax. While Lashana is 007, she is not the next James Bond. Daniel Craig is still the suave British spy. Lashana’s character, Nomi, is an MI6 agent who is assigned Bond’s number upon his retirement.
An insider allegedly told the Daily Mail, “There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, ‘Come in 007,’ and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful, and a woman.” The source continued, “It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.”
Trouble Behind The Scenes
Bond 25 has had quite a few disruptions before production began. Danny Boyle pulled out of directing the film after much alleged fighting with producers over which direction the franchise should take. Cary Fukunaga has stepped in to replace Boyle. Cary is the first American to direct a Bond film, which angered many who believed that the Bond franchise should remain British.
Pheobe Waller-Bridge was also brought in to assist with the script. Daniel Craig actually recommended Pheobe to step in, as he is a massive fan of her type of wit. Pheobe Waller-Bridge has been crushing it with her critically acclaimed series, Fleabag and Killing Eve. Producers asked her to polish and liven up the script with more offbeat humor and maybe thin out the martini jokes.
There have also been a few accidents that have derailed some filming. Daniel Craig suffered an ankle injury that required surgery and rest. A pyrotechnic accident on the set also caused a setback. However, despite the few delays, the film is still scheduled for release in April 2020.
007: The New And The Old
Daniel Craig was cast as James Bond in 2006. He is the seventh actor to inhabit Ian Fleming’s British secret service spy. Daniel Craig was already known in many households for his roles in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Road To Perdition, and Stephen Spielberg’s Munich. Casino Royale made him an international star. After taking on the role, Daniel continued to make other films, such as The Golden Compass, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Logan Lucky.
When Craig was cast as Bond, he faced tons of media backlash. He is blond and not tall, unlike the previous actors or the description of the character. He has since proven to the world that he was the right fit for the debonair character. Daniel’s experience should help Lashana navigate the waters of public opinion.
Lashana Lynch is a relatively new and upcoming star. The British actress has had a few minor roles. Her breakthrough role in America from the series Still Star-Crossed, by Shonda Rhimes. But Lashana’s role as Maria Rambeau, Carol Danver’s best friend in Captain Marvel will be where most will recognize her from.
What We Know About Bond 25
Lashana Lynch is the 007 agent Nomi. James Bond, Daniel Craig, has retired. An old friend is going to try to convince Bond to come out of retirement, so it is possible Lynch’s MI6 agent may not keep the 007″ title. Rami Malek, Billy Magnussen, and Ana de Armas are newcomers to the franchise. Craig, Ben Whishaw, Ralph Fiennes, Rory Kinnear, and Léa Seydoux are reprising their roles. Rami, fresh off his Oscar win from Bohemian Rhapsody, will be the antagonist of the film.
The film is still in production and is scheduled for release on April 3, 2020. Hopefully, Lashana Lynch will bring as much class, style and suave action as we know she is capable of.
