If you haven’t seen Us yet, then you’re missing out on one of the best horror films of the year. From the mind of director Jordan Peele, Us tells the story of the Wilson family’s terrifying family vacation to Santa Cruz. This creepy film got downright confusing sometimes, so thankfully Peele gave his fans some insight into the movie’s ending.

One Of Us

The Wilsons’ seemingly innocent beach trip turns nightmarish when they were confronted by a group of murderous doppelgangers out for revenge. The evil duplicates wait outside of the Wilsons’ house to wreak havoc and force the vacationing family to fight for their lives. Throughout the film, Adelaide, played by Lupita Nyong’o, struggles to save her family.

If you spent the entire movie rooting for Adelaide, then you’re not alone. 99% percent of us thought that she was an innocent bystander. Boy, were we wrong! @ssophiafasanoo trolled on Twitter, “this how Shadow Adelaide walked

The film’s major twist will slap you across the face. The opening scene shows young Adelaide entering the Shaman’s Vision Quest funhouse at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. After mysteriously disappearing for an hour, she returns to her parents’ as a shadow of her former self.

As an adult, there’s something not-quite-right about Adelaide. The film eventually reveals that the wrong Adelaide returned home that day. Apparently, the little girl met an obnoxious lookalike in the funhouse who imprisoned her in an underground world of replicas and replaced her in everyday life. @afterchalamet scratched her head on Twitter, “i’ve been reading  theories for the past hour.”

They Look Like Us

Adelaide’s evil twin Red’s mission is to kill all of the above ground dwellers who carelessly live their lives without regard for their shadow counterparts. Red’s attack on the Wilsons’ is just the beginning, and soon people across town are slaughtered by their sinister replacements.

Shockingly, Peele revealed that the real enemy in Us is us. “As a nation we tend to fear the outsider…This movie is about the notion that maybe we are our own worst enemy,” he shared. @ciaramn joked on Twitter, “How Jason was looking at Adelaide at the end of Us.
