Jennifer Aniston And Adam Sandler Talk About Reuniting In ‘Murder Mystery’
Published on July 9, 2019
Working in Hollywood means working with some great people. Sometimes, you’ll connect with someone so well, you’re hoping to reconnect with them in the future. For Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, it was a joy to reunite for Netflix’s Murder Mystery.
Reunited And It Feels So Good
In the film, Aniston and Sandler play a married couple who become involved in a murder investigation. For Aniston, being able to work with an old friend was the only reason to sign onto the film. “I’ve known Mr. Sandler for 30 years. We were in Italy for the summer, so that sucked. Adam, of course, always takes care of absolutely every single person, so all the families were visiting and staying in Lake Como and renting hotels and having just a wonderful little summer vacation while we got to go to work every day in these beautiful surroundings,” she told Harper’s Bazaar.
When it came to their kissing scenes, Sandler had some unexpected motivation on set. “The only awkward part is hearing my wife on the side going, ’Harder! Harder! Kiss her harder! Deeper! They (Jackie and the kids) watched the kissing. They love it. They love Aniston, and they want her to have good things and they say, ‘Give her something nice,’” Sandler told Fox News. Upon its release, Murder Mystery was watched in nearly 31 million households within a 72-hour period. This gives the film the honor of being the most watched Netflix film on its opening weekend.
Go With The Flow
Sandler and Aniston first worked together in the 2011 film Just Go With It. Directed by Dennis Dugan, the film walked away with $215 million made at the box office. The film earned many nominations at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards, including Choice Movie: Romantic Comedy. Sandler and Aniston’s performance earned them the win for Choice Movie: Chemistry.
While they’ve been friends for years, Sandler was surprised at how great Aniston was with her comedic timing. “I couldn’t believe how quick and funny Jennifer [is]. I know she is [funny] in real life, but it was pretty amazing when we were together how much fun [we had] and how she added and ended up beating me in scenes. I’d walk back to the trailer saying, ‘I gotta get some writers to help me,” he told Access Hollywood in 2011.
A Glimpse Into The Future
For Sandler, this is a continuation of his partnership with Netflix. His production company Happy Madison Productions landed a multi-movie deal with the streaming service back in 2014. His first film The Ridiculous 6 became the number one film for Netflix in all territories. Murder Mystery is Sandler’s seventh film under the deal with Netflix. The final film under the deal is The Wrong Missy, which stars David Spade. Outside of the deal, Sandler earned critical acclaim for the Netflix film The Meyerowitz Stories. Sandler is currently working on Uncut Gems and Hotel Transylvania 4.
Just like Sandler, Aniston has been busy with her own production company Echo Films. Founded in 2008, the company has produced the Golden Globe-nominated films Cake and Dumplin’. Their upcoming projects include The Goree Girls, What Alice Forgot, and First Ladies.
Aniston will star in the forthcoming Apple TV+ series The Morning Show, which is directed by Mimi Leder. This comedy-drama looks at what goes on with newscasters behind closed doors. The series will also star Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carell, and Billy Crudup. This will be Aniston’s first major role on a TV series since Friends. With rumors of a Murder Mystery sequel, the two pals won’t be separated for too long.
