Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, And Sam Neill Reprising Roles For 2021’s ‘Jurassic World 3’

Published on October 11, 2019

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom surprised fans with the appearance of Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcolm. For Jurassic World 3, Goldblum will be joining the main cast. He won’t be the only familiar face returning. Laura Dern and Sam Neill will also join the ride!

The Trio Are Back

The reveal was made during a fan screening of the new Jurassic World short Battle at Big Rock.  As expected, cast members of Jurassic World 3 were excited about the news finally coming out. “That was painful! I don’t think I was very effective in keeping that secret. I was like not effectively cagey about it, basically. People were like, ‘Is it happening?’ I’m like, ‘Mmm..,’” actress Bryce Dallas Howard told U.S Weekly.

Howard is thrilled with the original Jurassic Park cast members reprising their beloved roles. “I’m thrilled. Very, very, very, very, very excited. It feels really right and exhilarating because these are the founders, essentially, of Jurassic Park, and so to have them join in now, it almost, in a way, legitimizes the last couple of movies and brings the whole narrative together,” Howard also told U.S. Weekly. Howard and Dern worked together in the 2013 TV film Call Me Crazy: A Five Film.

Chris Pratt also shared his joy in teaming with the Jurassic Park trio. “Just in case you hadn’t seen the news. It’s finally happening. Get ready for what is absolutely without a doubt going to be the biggest, baddest and best, movie of the franchise,” he stated on Twitter.

Life Finds A Way

Following Fallen Kingdom, Goldblum didn’t know if he’d return for another round. “I don’t know what the plan is. I think they’re cooking up the plan. Nobody’s shared with me the plan, but Colin Trevorrow is a wonderful guy, and I talked to him on this movie, my little part. Really, the best thing we could do, he’s a wonderful writer, wonderful director,” Goldblum told Bloody Disgusting. “He and Emily Carmichael are writing this script that will be a movie in your local theater in summer of 2021 they say. Who knows? However humbly I can serve the story, if at all, I’ll be happy to do so.”

This will be the first time Goldblum, Dern, and Neill appeared on screen together since 1993’s Jurassic Park. Goldblum is the only member of the trio to appear in 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Dern and Neill returned for 2001’s Jurassic Park 3. While Goldblum wasn’t around, Ian Malcolm gets mentioned in the film.

Some Jurassic Material

This year has featured a slew of new Jurassic World content for fans to devour. Last month, Lego Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar began airing on Nickelodeon. This series serves as a prequel to 2015’s Jurassic World. The aforementioned Battle at Big Rock premiered on FX before being released online. The eight-minute short was directed by Jurassic World 3 director Colin Trevorrow. The short features Moonlight’s André Holland and The I-Land’s Natalie Martinez. Trevorrow was shocked nobody found out about this surprise project. “We shot it in Ireland last winter. They have a grove of redwood trees outside Dublin that look exactly like the national parks in Northern California. I honestly never thought we’d make it this far without getting found out. The Irish can keep a secret,” Trevorrow told Collider.

In 2020, there will be an animated Jurassic World series on Netflix titled Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. This series follows teenagers looking to escape Isla Nublar. Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness’ Scott Kreamer and Lane Lueras will be the showrunners.

Jurassic World 3 will begin filming next spring. The movie is slated for a June 11, 2021 release.
