‘Fast And Furious’ Instagram Feud Between Dwayne Johnson And Vin Diesel Is Apparently Over

Published on October 18, 2019

Since 2001, the Fast and Furious franchise has delivered high energy stories on screen. The off-screen feud between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel drew plenty of attention from the press. Now, Johnson has decided to call off the feud with his co-star.

Giving Thanks To Diesel

On Instagram, Johnson posted a video thanking fans for Hobbs and Shaw‘s box office success. “I just want to say thank you guys so, so much. You have officially made Hobbs & Shaw not only a massive, global success – as we’ve just crossed $750 million dollars at the global box office – but also, you helped enable a build-out and an expansion of the Fast and Furious universe,” he said.

Johnson turned his attention to Diesel, who plays Dominic Toretto in the franchise. “Lastly, but not least, I want to thank brother Vin for your support of Hobbs & Shaw. I saw your post, and I appreciate it… What a wild ride this has been [since] 10 years ago, when you and I spoke and you invited me into the Fast & Furious family,” Johnson said in the video. “I’m grateful for that invite. And as you know, my goal was always, all these years, to come into the Fast & Furious world and help elevate the franchise in any way that I possibly could.” If that’s not enough, Johnson teased a reunion with Diesel in the future. “We did it the right way, we did it the smart way, and again, brother, I appreciate your support. And, of course, all roads lead to one thing – I’ll be seeing you soon, Toretto,” he said in the video.

Feud Of The Furious

The beef between Johnson and Diesel began while filming The Fate of the Furious. In a deleted Instagram video, Johnson aired his grievances about filming. “Some [male co-stars] conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken s–t to do anything about it anyway. Candy a–es. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling, you’re right,” he said in the video. All signs pointed to Diesel, who’s been in the Fast & Furious franchise since the first movie. Two days after the post, Johnson stated everything was fine. Diesel, however, posted a video of his own saying, “So give me a second, and I will tell you everything. Everything.” On the final day of shooting, Johnson thanked everyone in the cast except for Diesel on Instagram.

It’s Cool, Everyone

At the Fate of the Furious premiere, Diesel confirmed things were cool between him and Johnson. “We still love each other, that’s my boy. When I was making that difficult decision, should there be an 8 or not, I called [Johnson] and he said, ‘Brother, I will be there shoulder to shoulder with you to make sure it’s the best movie in history.’ And he delivered. At my house he’s ‘Uncle Dwayne,’ and I’m proud of that,” Diesel told Entertainment Tonight.

Johnson stated it was simply people butting heads. “Just like, in life, you have different philosophies, and people have different fundamental philosophies on how you do things,” Johnson told Entertainment Tonight.

Making Their Return Soon?

Unfortunately, Johnson won’t take part in the upcoming Fast and Furious 9, which drops on May 22, 2020. “As of now, we’re not in Fast 9 because they’re getting ready to start shooting. But who knows with Fast 10 and down the road, you never know. Because look, at the end of the day, the truth is there’s unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom,” Johnson told MTV. The tenth installment of Fast and Furious will be released on April 2, 2021. Perhaps Hobbs and Dominic will pick up where they left off in a couple of years.
