CW Makes History By Announcing First Transgender Superhero
Published on August 1, 2018

For the longest time, superheroes were only found in the illustrated pages of comic books. Now, they can easily be found topping the box office nearly every weekend. But, even more recently, these superheroes (and villains) have been delighting audiences with their adventures on the small screen. And soon, a transgender superhero will proudly join their ranks.
Historic New Character
The CW is already known for its lengthy list of entertaining programs, but their rendition of Supergirl is among their best. This week, reports stated that the producers of the show plan on introducing a new character into the upcoming fourth season. And it’s going to make history!
That’s right, starting this fall, fans of the show will meet Nia Nal, the world’s first transgender superhero! It’s going to be an awesome innovation, not to mention enormously important.
Best Person For The Job
Nia Nal (also known as ‘Dreamer’) will be played by transgender actor/activist, Nicole Maines. And believe us, she’s more than ready for the job.
Nicole made headlines when she became the first transgender person to win a lawsuit over the use of public bathrooms. On top of making strides towards social equality, Nicole has some serious acting skills, as she’s performed in various productions like Royal Pains and The Trans List.
We’re Super Excited!
Creators of the show did not mince words when describing the upcoming character. They plan to depict Nia Nal as a “soulful young transgender woman with a fierce drive to protect others.” As you can imagine this has audiences everywhere giddy with excitement for this new transgender superhero.
Nia will serve as a new member of the CatCo reporting squad during the new season of Supergirl. We’re confident Nicole will absolutely crush it as Nia Nal. With her talent and real-life experience, she’s truly the perfect person to play this historic character. We can’t wait to see her in action!
