Since 2008, the Duggars have been one of the most beloved families featured on reality TV. Just like any other family, there are some things kept hidden away until the time is right. With these five shocking confessions, the Duggar family show they’re normal people when away from the cameras.

Hanging On The Telephone

As a teen, talking on the phone is a part of everyday life. In the Duggar house, calls that weren’t chaperoned by Michelle and Jim Bob were completely forbidden. Jessa admitted to breaking that rule many times while dating her ex, Ben Seewald. “These were such special times. These calls were not ‘chaperoned.’ They were private just between the two of us,” she wrote in the book Growing Up Duggar.

Some Much Needed Assistance

Everyone goes through tough times now and then. Michelle’s time of helplessness came when she was folding laundry at one in the morning. “Feelings of being overwhelmed flooded my mind. I cried aloud, ‘LORD I NEED YOUR HELP, I can’t do it all,” she posted on her blog.

Sisterly Feud

Sibling rivalries are nothing new. Jessa and Jana used to be at each other’s throats as children. “I think as I started to get a little bit older, I also had a very strong personality and so I would sometimes protest the ideas that she [Jana] had,” Jessa said on Counting On. As they started getting older, things gradually died down, and they became best friends.

Watching And Waiting

Watching everyone start families can be a bit disheartening for single people. That was the case for oldest daughter, Jana. Waiting for the right person to come has been a challenge for her. “Waiting is not always easy. Especially in those times when all the married siblings are getting together and you can’t go along because your [sic] not part of ‘that’ group,” Jana told Crown of Beauty Magazine.

Have A Little Faith In Me

Religion is something that can bring people together. For Joy-Anna, it drove her away from her parents as a kid. During Kendra and Joe’s rehearsal dinner, Joy-Anna expressed her gratitude for Joe. “Just through my teen years, I think I was having a hard time taking my parents’ faith as my own and you really befriended me as an older brother,” she said.
