David Beckham’s Kids: Which One Will Step Into His Father’s Cleats?

Professional athletes are often asked: “Are your children going to follow in your footsteps?” Are they going to be as talented as you? Ex-Manchester United soccer star David Beckham is no stranger to these questions. Everyone wants to know if his four children will also be soccer stars. So, will they?

Brooklyn Beckham

David and Victoria Beckham’s firstborn son, Brooklyn, attempted to follow in his father’s footsteps. He formerly played for Arsenal F.C. Academy, but he was released in the summer of 2015 after failing to earn a scholarship deal. He was considered “not good enough” by the club and that he would always be playing catch-up to reach a professional level.

Brooklyn eventually earned a call to the Under-18 soccer squad while other players in his age group were away at a tournament in Dubai. He was an unused substitute for a 1-0 victory against Leicester City in February 2015. The now 20-year-old has since given up his soccer career, instead choosing modeling and photography. He has released a book of images, titled What I See. He seemingly didn’t inherit his father’s athletic skills, but he takes after his mother, Victoria, who has appeared on the cover of multiple publications.

Romeo Beckham

Like his older brother, Romeo Beckham briefly played soccer for the Arsenal F.C. Academy, but he left the academy a few months after Brooklyn was released. David admitted that his second son has decided he won’t follow in his footsteps. “The other day, Romeo turned ‘round to me and said he didn’t want to play football [English version of American soccer] anymore,” David said. “Part of me was devastated but part of me was relieved, too. He’s got other passions and I like that.”

Romeo has also started a modeling career, specifically for Burberry. The now 16-year-old has gained over two million Instagram followers, where he shares his adventures. In the meantime, he has shown interest as a tennis player. His parents invested in building a tennis court at their Cotswolds mansion, all in hopes that Romeo can train to become a professional player. He could apparently one day be equal to his father in the tennis world.

Cruz Beckham

Cruz Beckham might just be 14 years old, but he has already trained to play soccer for the Arsenal F.C. Academy. Of David’s three sons, Cruz seemingly shows the most potential as a soccer player, probably inheriting his father’s superb athletic talents. He will apparently continue to train and improve his skills on the soccer field, if he chooses.

However, when he’s not playing soccer, Cruz can be found singing. In 2016, he released a single, “If Everyday Was Christmas,” to raise funds for Make Some Noise, a charity supporting disadvantaged children in the United Kingdom. Cruz was lucky to have Justin Bieber’s manager, Scooter Baun, promote the single.

While Cruz might be considered a talented soccer player, it seems he might also pursue a music career, following in Victoria’s footsteps, a former member of the popular Spice Girls pop group. Fans love Cruz’s singing, comparing him to Bieber when he was Cruz’s age. In 2016, Cruz recorded a video of himself performing Anna Kendrick’s song “Cups” from Pitch Perfect. Doting father David shared the video on his Instagram account, demonstrating that he is proud of his son. Cruz is a multi-talented individual, and he still has plenty of time to decide if he wants to become a professional athlete or singer.

Harper Beckham

The Beckham’s youngest child and only daughter, Harper has already shown interest in following in her father’s footsteps. The eight-year-old told Victoria, “Mummy, I think I want to play football.” She has participated in soccer camps in California. While Victoria wishes her only daughter could share her love for fashion, she doesn’t blame her for admiring her father’s profession.

David couldn’t be more proud of his only daughter. He commented, “It was the best thing I’ve ever heard.” Harper is still young, but if she decides to become a professional soccer player, she’ll purportedly have her entire family’s support.
