Is A Darth Vader Film On The Horizon?

When it comes to villains, Darth Vader is easily the baddest one of all. Despite being a sci-fi icon, the character has yet to have a solo film. Everyone knows a Vader film would bring in some serious cash to Lucasfilm. So, is there one currently in the works?

A Big Switchup

Back in 2015, it was actually confirmed that Darth Vader would get his own film. Screenwriter David S. Goyer made the announcement of a Vader film at the Star Wars Celebration. Unfortunately, things changed, and it was transformed into a VR game playable at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.

Petitions For Petitions

Following his appearance in Rogue One, fans demanded more Vader on the big screen. Several petitions asking for Vader films worked their way online. Many of them wanted to have an R-rated film, which would reveal a more violent side to the character. “I want a series of standalone movies of Darth Vader being the most merciless, hateful, cold-hearted, killer-instinct Vader we have never seen until Rogue One,” one petition states.

One Fan’s Imagination

On YouTube, one fan took their demand for a Vader film a step further. YouTuberFlamingoIsland turned Vader’s scenes in Rogue One into a slasher movie trailer. The pitch for this flick is enough to get Rob Zombie excited. “After the events of Order 66, the presence of Jedi has been diminished. The Emperor has ordered Darth Vader to purge the remaining Jedi,” FlamingoIsland states in the video description.

Wait In Line

When it comes to the Star Wars Anthology series, Darth Vader’s name hasn’t been brought up yet. Many characters rumored to have their own film include Boba Fett, Lando, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. The only constant is Han Solo, who is slated to appear in two more Anthology films.

Our Lips Are Sealed

With this increased interest in a Vader film, Lucasfilm has been tight-lipped about it. Comic book fans have pointed towards his current Marvel Comics series, which starts after Episode Three, as a great replacement. If Lucasfilm is planning a Darth Vader movie, it’ll come as a surprise announcement.
