Social media and celebrities, in today’s day and age it seems like you can’t have one without the other. Celebrities in the film and music industries can have millions, sometimes hundreds of millions of fans on Instagram and social media. With all the pressure to impress, some can’t help but lie in order to keep the love rolling in. Fortunately, we’ve kept our eyes peeled and found more than a few who got busted lying on social media.
Kim Kardashian and Blac Chyna have had a turbulent relationship: first as best friends, then falling out over the rapper Tyga, then back to being friends again. Back in 2014, Kim K, and her partner-in-crime at the time, Blac Chyna, uploaded what seemed to be just another innocuous photo. The duo likely didn’t expect how observant their fans were though.
Fans noticed that some of Kim’s crazy curves might have been Photoshopped. The giveaway? The door frame next to the famous duo is a bit wonky. Even so, we have to give the lady credit where credit’s due. This photo came out just a year after Kim gave birth to North West and she still looks incredible. So maybe she deserves a boost with some Photoshop software.
It might be a little unfair here to accuse Justin Bieber of flat-out lying, but one particular social media post wasn’t exactly truthful either. On Christmas 2014, Bieber was flying in a private jet he’d got for the holiday. He wanted to share his excitement with his fans.
In the caption Bieber writes, “New jet for Christmas, and she’s beautiful.” This would imply that Justin Bieber bought the jet himself. Instead, reality was more than a bit different: it was just a rented G4 flying from Canada to New York City. But it was Christmas, maybe the singing celebrity got confused and thought someone else got it for him. Sorry Justin, maybe next year.
Incredible as it may be, even someone like Beyoncé can go down the Photoshop rabbit hole. The singer, songwriter, and actress has been in Time magazine’s top 100 most influential people. She’s also been ranked by Forbes as being one of the most powerful players in the entertainment industry. But even that wasn’t enough to stop her from a few touch-ups.
During Queen B’s thirty-third birthday celebrations, someone snapped a shot of her descending stairs on a yacht. Looking between her legs, there appears to be a very strange distortion on the steps, creating quite the thigh gap. Considering how many women would kill to look like her, it truly boggles the mind why she felt the need to edit.
Looks like Thanksgiving came early at the Kardashian house. Khloé Kardashian was “sooooo proud” of herself after, allegedly, baking a number of Thanksgiving treats. She uploaded a picture of pumpkin, pecan, and cherry pies to social media, all alongside some monkey bread. But these pies weren’t as picture perfect as Khloé had thought.
According to TMZ, the pies that Khloé had worked so diligently on were, in fact, from a Los Angeles-based bakery called Sweet Lady Jane. Turns out the only work that this Kardashian celebrity had probably done was setting them up and snapping some shots! Maybe one Thanksgiving, Khloé will be able to proudly show off her culinary skills, but not quite yet.
Kim Kardashian was feeling extra nice the day she let daughter North West play around on her phone. Kids are often curious, so it should come as no surprise that perhaps the toddler unintentionally stumbled across a few “unexpected” items on Kim’s phone. But what are the odds that this was the snapshot she supposedly “found”?
Kim would have you believe her two-year-old daughter not only found a particularly flattering photo, but uploaded it to Mom’s social media as well. What makes blaming the kid so baffling is that the reality show star is no stranger to posting complimentary photos of herself. So why blame her little one? Guess we’ll just have to chalk this one up to the mysteries of the Kardashian family.
Look out Bobby Flay! There’s a new celebrity chef in town — although it might not be who you’d expect. Back in January 2016, international pop superstar Britney Spears posted a picture of corn on her Instagram feed with the caption “It’s honestly too good to be true mmmm.” Turns out she wasn’t lying.
A fan of Miss Spears, @MisterPreda, posted a photo of Spears’ corn next to an identical picture from a cooking site called recipe100.com. Turns out the pop sensation had found this corn photo on the site, and decided it would be easier to just repost it rather than trying to cook the corn herself.
If that seems ridiculous, wait for this next social media fib. We can’t believe the gall!
Like mother like daughter! It would seem that Kim learned her not-so-sneaky Photoshop skills from none other than her own mom, Kris Jenner. And the Kardashian clan matriarch might have snuck this one by us, if it weren’t for celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
Seems like Jenner just isn’t a fan of wrinkles. While some see them as a sign of wisdom and experience, it appears Kris felt a need to erase them from both her face and Ramsay’s. Unfortunately for the reality show star, she didn’t realize that Gordon was also going to post the unadulterated photo, with wrinkles and all.
The Mean Girls star looked like she was practicing her best Cady Heron pose when something went wrong. Perhaps Lindsay Lohan didn’t like the shape of her thigh or her back. Or, maybe she felt that having a straight door frame was just not cutting it for this photo? Whatever the case, Lohan took to Photoshop software to fix it.
Looks like Lohan’s Photoshop skills could use some work. The weird wrap-around effect, very characteristic of Photoshop, gave this celebrity’s thigh and posterior a strange, funhouse mirror look to it. Numerous fans were quick to call out this social media fail, and we’re hoping the actress is choosing a different editing app.
Miranda Kerr got into modeling at age 13. From there, her career soared to extraordinary heights, as she became Australia’s first Victoria’s Secret model. According to Forbes, she has consistently been one of the highest-earning models worldwide. But with success also comes the pressures of success, and Kerr was no stranger to that either.
After a 2012 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, Vogue uploaded a photo of Kerr standing next to two other gorgeous models. Fans noticed that in the first photo (the left one) her body looked normal, but in the second one there appears to have been a slimming effect. Kerr denied altering the photo, saying she had merely found it on the Internet and didn’t realize it had been edited.
It would be safe to assume that a public figure with over 146 million followers would double-check her photos before posting one on social media. But this is Kim K we’re talking about, so what can really be expected? After she uploaded this photo, people became rather riled up over this obviously doctored picture.
Looking closely, it’s possible to see that the reality show star, in an attempt to possibly make herself look slimmer, or maybe widen her hips, ended up removing her own arm. Not only did she lose a limb in the photo, but she went ahead and uploaded it without bothering to fix it! This woman could either be totally carefree, or some sort of secret genius.
For yet another social media blunder, Justin outright claimed a Bugatti was his, writing, “Uncle Stunna luv. My first Bugatti #generosity.” While that would have been an extremely generous gift, like the Christmas jet debacle, it was instead just a loaner from the rapper named Birdman.
It’s no wonder why Justin Bieber would’ve wanted the car though. Birdman’s Bugatti is worth nearly two million dollars and, according to Bieber, is apparently very Instagram-worthy. While that car won’t be parked in Bieber’s garage, Birdman kindly told him he’s welcome to borrow it whenever he’s in Miami. Hopefully it won’t end up like some of Bieber’s other cars…
Soulja Boy, aka DeAndre Cortez Way, aka Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em, was one of the most popular rappers in 2009. What’s more, by 2010, Forbes listed him as one of the industry’s highest-earning rappers. At the time, social media was becoming more and more popular, so it’s likely that the successful rapper wanted to use it to show off his newfound wealth.
The rapper responsible for the dance craze from “Crank That” posted a picture of himself holding what looks like almost 50 thousand dollars in cash. The stacks turned out to be fake, after people noticed it was just a single 100 dollar bill on top of blank, white pieces of paper. Once the lie was exposed, the rapper deleted the original post. But, as you may surmise, it had already been reposted plenty of times.
This may be one of the strangest social media lie on this list. In September 2018, Kylie Jenner tweeted that she had just had cereal with milk for the first time. An apparently life-changing experience, Jenner’s tweet was followed up by a fan who called her out. Twitter user Joseph Shepherd, reposted a photo which Jenner herself had previously uploaded of, you guessed it – a bowl of cereal and milk.
There’s a lot to break down on this one, it’s hard to know where to begin. First off, who waits until they’re 21 to try cereal with milk for the very first time? Also, was she bragging that she had cereal for the first time? Why else would she alter the truth about it? So many questions!
On November 19, 2006 history was made by none other than well-known socialite Paris Hilton. In a Twitter post, the blonde media personality posted pictures of herself and Britney Spears with “11 years ago today, Me & Britney invented the selfie!” However, it turns out there were already many, many photos providing evidence to the contrary.
While it’s likely that Paris Hilton was doing some playful, tongue-in-cheek humor, the fact is that her claim of inventing the selfie was very, very incorrect. According to an article from The New York Times, the first selfie ever taken with a camera dates all the way back to 1839! So Paris was only about 167 years too late in her invention.
Kylie Jenner and her behind have garnered the attention, and often admiration, of fans on social media. So it can be assumed that the pressure to look perfect might’ve taken its toll on the reality TV star turned makeup mogul. As a result, Kylie Jenner may have taken it too far in an Instagram post for a pair of jeans from retail company Fashion Nova.
Overall the Photoshop isn’t as obvious as others on this list, but there’s something about her that just seems a little off. Both the pockets on the jeans and back belt loop just look way too elongated. But the most surprising thing about this photo is, why she would think she needed to digitally enhance her famous figure in the first place? Just one of those mysteries.
Oh Kim, the famous reality show star and business mogul just can’t seem to keep herself away from a social media gaffe for too long. The Kardashian superstar has so many followers who seem to enjoy following her life that she most likely felt compelled to post the most beautiful photo she could find. This photo however, wasn’t all that it initially appeared to be.
Eagle-eyed followers, after seeing the photo that Kim K had posted, took to Google, likely to find more information about this fascinating country. But a quick search on Google images found that the image, which has now been removed, was actually a previously existing image on Google images search. Why Kim, why?
This one isn’t quite as obvious as other social media blunders on this list, but it doesn’t take an intelligence analyst from a spy movie to spot it either. Lohan, in an attempt to possibly make her waist look smaller, seems to have reverted to a celebrity favorite, Photoshop software. Unfortunately for the former Freaky Friday star, it just didn’t come out as well as she might’ve hoped for.
Just to be clear, it is totally possible that some inventive architect somewhere built a house with a wonky stair and Lindsay Lohan just happened to pose in front of them. The more obvious and likely reason for the abnormal pattern of the stair, is Lohan’s amateur Photoshop skills, which she then posted to social media.
When Khloe Kardashian Photoshopped her leg for her Instagram account, fans were aghast. The Photoshop effect was subtle, the door frame next to the Kardashian star was not perfectly straight, and instead had a weird bend to it. But after fans called her out on this altered image, something surprising happened.
Rather than lambaste her, fans were actually very supportive. One fan commented, “No need to Photoshop, you have an amazing body.” That very same day Kardashian took down the photo, replacing it with the original one and wrote, “If only hatin burned calories how dope yall would be. Too bad it doesn’t. Here’s the OG shot.” This resulted in the photo getting over one million likes.
Mrs. Beyoncé Carter has received praise and adoration for her womanly curves. In spite of it though, she seems to be overly concerned with her thigh gap, or lack thereof, and has taking measures into her own hands, literally, to create the appearance of one. Still, this wasn’t the first time the international superstar tried her hand at Photoshopping.
Upon seeing the photo, fans weren’t very happy. One fan wrote in the comments, “Jesus these ain’t even her legs!! Photoshopping is getting absurd! Get real.” Even as someone beloved and admired for both her talent and her appearance, it looks like unattainable beauty standards forced upon women even affect the rich and famous as well.
When someone has as many followers on social media as celebrities do, it behooves one to remember that with all those eyes, someone is about to notice if something is amiss. That was certainly the case for Diddy when he posted a picture of a rare solar eclipse, shining over the Los Angeles skyline.
Fans were quick to point out that the photo actually belonged to an LA-based photographer by the name of Cole Younger, who had posted the photo on his account two weeks before the famous rapper. Many followers commented on Diddy’s photo saying that at the very least he should give the young photographer credit. After seeing the outrage, Diddy removed the photo from his account.
Only a week before Diddy was criticized by fans for taking the photo of Cole Younger, Snoop Dogg, famous Long Beach based rapper, was also scrutinized for the same thing. Posting on Instagram, the rapper didn’t bother to attribute the photo to Younger.
Younger didn’t sit quietly on this one though. In an email to online journal, Pop Photo, the photographer said about both Diddy and Snoop, “I consider them both very creative and you think they both would have more insight on the lack of courtesy to give me my due.” While Diddy did take the photo down, Snoop still has it on his social media.
Television and film star Bella Thorne has had roles in dozens of features, and she likely wanted to spend some of those hard earned dollars on some new, fashionable attire. She posted a seemingly innocent photo, just her in a fancy Alice + Olivia jacket. She hadn’t planned on what would happen next.
In the original Instagram post, Thorne claims that her expensive jacket was just faux fur. Turns out that fans were a bit more scrupulous than she had expected. After researching on the Harrods website, fans discovered the jacket was actually made of “genuine rabbit and arctic fox fur from China.” Thorne followed up by saying that she had returned the jacket, but the damage was already done.
Oprah Winfrey has been described as one of the richest and most influential women in the world. Having built a media empire, it’s not surprising that many companies would turn to the media mogul to promote their products. Most of the time she endorses them in a professional manner. This time though, Oprah messed up.
Oprah tweeted about how much she loved the Microsoft surface, a product competing directly with Apple’s iPad. Problem is, she posted it from her iPad! While the original post has since been deleted, broadcasters were left doubled over laughing from the blunder. Looks like Oprah may not have bought those Christmas gifts after all.
This fib is slightly more egregious than just a little social media Photoshop. The rapper Bow Wow (former known as Lil’ Bow Wow) definitely likes to brag about the high-life. With albums like Cash Money, Bow Wow raps about how he lives large in big mansions and travels in fast cars. But one post about luxury planes caught up with him.
Captioning this photo with: “Travel day. NYC press run for Growing Up Hip Hop. Lets gooo. I promise to bring yall the hottest show EVER,” Bow Wow hoped his fans would think he was arriving in style. Unfortunately for his reputation, the jig was up when he was noticed flying by a fellow passenger flying commercial the same day he made the post. Busted!
English singer, songwriter, and actress Rita Ora has had three songs reach the top position in the UK Singles Chart and thirteen top ten songs in the United Kingdom. It’s likely that with these accomplishments that the celebrity singer might think quite highly of herself. So for her, this tweet from Halloween 2014 might have led to some shocking conclusions.
While the original post was deleted, it had stated, “Dropping my new song monday if this get 100,000 retweets.” Turns out this publicity stunt wasn’t as successful as the former judge from The Voice hoped and she followed it up with some excuse about her Twitter getting hacked.
